Our Pastor

 Frederic B. Fies

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

                                    -Acts 20:28

 Welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to look at our website.  Every part of this website was designed specially to inform you about our church.  There is much to read here, but all of it is with a purpose.  If you are not wild about reading, feel free to call the church and I would be glad to answer any questions you might have.  We are here to serve you and to facilitate the growth of your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Bio Sketch

On April 27, 2005, Fred Fies became the thirteenth pastor of McKee Road Baptist Church.  Born in Kentucky, much of his formative years were spent in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.  While there, his parents attended and served at Redwood Baptist Church under Pastor Dwight Tomlinson (now pastor of Liberty Baptist Church of Newport Beach, California).

On October 20, 1982, he accepted Christ as personal Savior—led to the Lord by his father.  At age 13, he and his family moved to Bradford, Arkansas when his dad accepted the position of principal at Trinity Christian School under Pastor Don Robinson.

On February 20, 1999, Fred and Amy Fies (formerly Hobgood) were married in Shreveport, Louisiana.  After ten years of marriage, God has blessed them with four children (ages 3-9).

His ministry started while working as youth pastor under the direction of Jesse Hobgood (pastor and father-in-law) at Barron Road Baptist Church of Keithville, Louisiana.  After four years of training and mentoring, he felt God leading him to attend Bible College at West Coast Baptist College.  Having finished a ministry degree there, God moved to allow him to become the pastor of McKee Road Baptist Church.

Our Beliefs

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.   -Jude 1:3

1. We believe the Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God.  We believe in the verbal plenary inspiration by the Holy Spirit through human authors.  We believe that God’s Word has been preserved for the English-speaking people in its entirety in the King James Version of the Bible.  We believe in literal interpretation of the Bible to direct in all matters of faith and practice. (Ps. 12:6-7, II Tim. 3:15-17, I Pet. 1:23-25, II Pet. 2:19-21)

2. We believe in the existence and supremacy of the Creator God who is self-existent, immutable, infinite, and eternal in attribute; omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent in His being; and is triune in person (Father, Son, Holy Ghost) but one in essence. (Deut. 6:4, I Tim.1:17, James 1:17, I John 4:4)

3. We believe in the eternal, pre-existent, deity of Christ Who became incarnate while holding His divine attributes.  We believe He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died a gruesome death, was buried, and on the third day was bodily resurrected from the dead.  We believe He ascended and is now seated on the right hand of God making intercession for the saints as priest and will one day come again to rapture the church and seven years later to establish His kingdom and rule on earth for 1,000 years. (Ps. 2:7-9, Isa. 7:14, 9:6, 43:11, Micah 5:2, Matt. 1:25, Like 1:26-35, John 1:1, 3, 14, 18, 29, Rom. 3:19-25, 5:6-15, Phil. 2:5-11, I Th. 4:13-18, I Tim. 2:5, 3:16, Titus 2:10-15, Heb. 7:26, 9:24-28, I Pet. 1:19, 2:2, I John 1:3, Rev. 20:1-6)

4. We believe in the person of the Holy Spirit which possesses all aspects of deity and convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment; He indwells the believer from the point of regeneration sealing his salvation and bringing him spiritual gifts.  We believe the sign (or miracle) gifts have ceased but other gifts remain for the edification of the church. (Gen. 1:2, John 3:5-6, 14:26, Acts 1:5, 11:15, I Cor. 3:16, 6;:19-20, 12:13)

5. We believe in the depraved, sinful state of man.   We believe that man was created in the image of God but all men fell through the original sin of Adam.  We believe that unregenerate man has a sin nature that will result in eternal separation from God in a literal Hell.  We believe in the free will of man.  (Gen 5:1-5, Matt. 7:13-14, 25:46, John 5:29,  Rom. 3:10-23, 5:6-12, Rev. 20:11-16)

6. We believe in the efficacious blood atonement for man’s sin through the substitutionary, propitiatory death of Jesus Christ on the cross.  We believe there is no other means of peace with God and an eternal home with Him in Heaven than through faith in the finished work of Jesus payment for sin and by God’s grace Who extends it to all that will believe.  We believe in the eternal security of the believer. (Acts 16:31, Rom. 6:23, 10:9-13, II Cor. 5:21, Eph. 2:8,9, I Tim. 2:4-6, Titus 3:5, Heb. 9:22, 10:10-12, I John 2:2)

7. We believe that the local church is an assembly of baptized believers in Christ organized with pastors and deacons with the purpose of observing fellowship, edification, ordinances (baptism and communion), and evangelism of the lost.  We believe that the church was founded on Christ himself with a pastor as overseer and shepherd.  We believe that the local church is an autonomous body in government and resources. (Matt. 16:16-18, Acts 1:15, Acts 2:41-43, Acts 11:15, Acts 20:28, I Cor. 15:53-58, Eph. 1:12-14, 5:25-30, I Th. 4:13-18, I Tim. 3:4-15)

8. We believe in the pre-tribulation rapture of the church saints, followed by a seven-year tribulation.  We believe in the pre-millennial return of Christ to establish His kingdom for 1,000 years on earth at the end of which the Great White Throne judgment he will judge all mankind. (I Cor. 15:53-58, I Th. 4:13-18, 5:1-9, Rev. 19:22)

A Short History of McKee Road Baptist Church

On the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary December 2, 2006

Early in the year of 1956, Raymond Bohler and his loving wife came to an empty piece of ground on Planz Road to attempt to plant an Independent Baptist Church.  Services started not long after in a small “trailer house” with three young boys attending that first morning.  They decided to name the church—The Olivet Baptist Church.

It was not long before an old building had been donated under the condition that Brother Bohler would tear it down and move it to their property.  He and a few men immediately went to this task and before long they were putting up a building.  Several have recounted how Mrs. Bohler and other ladies of the church would sit at length and straighten the nails pulled from the wood, because there was no money for new ones.

By October 7th of 1956, the church was meeting in the new building with just bare floors.  On December 2nd of that year, the church was organized with 11 charter members and the name was changed to the Planz Road Baptist Church.

October 6th, 1957 marked the beginning of Bro. Charles Puckett’s pastorate.  A friendly and joyful man, he had a nice family and a wife gifted in music. On September 28th of 1959, Reverend Platt began his short term as pastor before Bro. Tom Hardy (speaker at the 50th Anniversary service) became pastor.  A very friendly and compassionate man, Pastor Hardy was known for his excellent Bible teaching.  He ministered with his wife and family (son and two daughters) faithfully at his side.  One of his daughters is currently serving as a missionary supported by McKee Road Baptist Church with her husband in Belgium.

Brother Parker Roberts served as interim pastor until the church could find a new pastor.  June 26, 1966, Brother Newell took over as the new pastor, followed by Lyle Smith on June 8, 1972.  Lyle Smith went on to have at least one son who currently is pastoring.

Serving for only a few months, John Merritt began his pastorate on June 4th of 1974 to be followed by Pastor Raymond Bugg early in 1975.

1981 marked the beginning of the long and fruitful pastorate of Pastor Jerry Dulaney.  Known for his giving heart and friendly personality, Pastor Dulaney knew no stranger—and no stranger knew anyone like him.  His giving heart extended beyond personal relationships into the arena of world-wide missions.  While under his leadership, the church simultaneously supported over 70 individual mission works.

Not long after Jerry Dulaney, a retired Navy corpsman and respected leader, became pastor, the church was presented with a wonderful opportunity.  Property with buildings was available at 400 McKee Road for a price that seemed only God could have arranged.  The ever-growing church, reaching higher attendances all the time, needed room for growth.  So the church became the McKee Road Baptist Church in 1982 because of its new location.

After 21 years of faithful pastoring, Pastor Jerry Dulaney was called home suddenly by the Lord in November of 2001.  In his absence, Jeff Salters was named as interim pastor.  After almost a year’s search, Pastor Steven Wass was named the new pastor in 2003.  He was followed by Brother Michael Caswell in the beginning of 2004.  Brother Caswell stayed until October of 2004, feeling the leading of the Lord to return to evangelism.

In November of 2004, fearing what the absence of leadership might mean for the church, a call was placed to West Coast Baptist College in Lancaster, California for assistance in filling the pulpit on Sundays.  The college responded by sending several young men who would alternate preaching.  Unbeknownst to both the young man and the church, the future pastor would be among those preachers.

On April 27, 2005, Fred Fies became the current pastor. May the Lord continue to bless our church!
